Metro Detroit Real Estate Sees Big Gains
When comparing January 2011 to January 2012, the Metro Detroit real estate market saw the biggest gain in home and condo sales with a 7% increase. Wayne County home and condo sales had a 4.8% increase and Oakland County had a slight decrease of 1.1%. When looking at the median sale price, Metro Detroit and Oakland County each had an increase of 5.3%, while Wayne County saw a decrease of 5.4%. Inventory continues to decline, with an average of 22.4% less homes on the market, and sales generally remain strong.
The Metro Detroit and Oakland County real estate markets both had a 5.3% increase in the median home prices in January, compared with 2011. Wayne County, which includes Plymouth and Canton real estate, saw a decrease of 5.4%. A few other statistics worth noting: Oakland County foreclosure sales decreased by 12.7% and the average days on the market for the entire MLS decreased by 7 days, from 96 to 89.
