Government
As governing bodies go, Plymouth is fortunate to have one of the more fiscally responsible boards in Michigan. There are actually two entities of government in Plymouth, as the actual city of Plymouth and the township have two different governmental bodies.
History
Settled in the mid 1820′s, Plymouth Michigan did not actually become a legitimate official township until 1867 and did not receive the title of a city until 1932. The actual industry of Plymouth wasn’t seen until 1871 when George Starkweather, a child of the original settlers, decided that a railway would propel Plymouth into the future. Starkweather was correct in his deduction, and businesses started migrating into the area on a regular basis.
